Cooperation between Lapland and Murmansk

The Regional Council of Lapland actively cooperates with Russia, and with the Murmansk region in particular. The cooperation focuses on economic collaboration and the improvement of traffic routes.

The Regional Council of Lapland renewed the collaboration treaty with the regional administration of Murmansk in May 2008. The treaty aims at promoting regional collaboration on all levels and developing new forms of collaboration. The cooperation is coordinated by the Lapland-Murmansk work group.

Strengthening the project operations is one of the most important tasks of the group.

Focal points include:

  • education and research cooperation
  • sustainable use of natural resources and business cooperation
  • environmental and traffic-related issues
  • social and health care.
