The regional development funding is a grant intended for the implementation of the development projects in the regional strategic programme of Lapland. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy decides on the annual allocation of regional development funding. As the regional development authority, the Regional Council of Lapland decides on the distribution of the regional development funding in the region. Companies, educational institutions, research institutions,
municipalities, regions and other incorporated societies as well as
combinations of these may apply for the funding from the European
Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The funding is granted by the
Regional Council of Lapland; Finnvera; and the Centre for Economic
Development, Transport and the Environment of Lapland.

The INTERREG IV A North is an EU programme that supports
cross-border cooperation during the programme period 2007-2013. The
objective of the programme is to support economic and social
development in the programme region through cooperation across
national borders. The funding from the Interreg IV A North
programme is only granted for projects whose participants come from
at least two countries. If operators from all three countries take
part in the project, it is considered an advantage when granting
the funding for the project.

The Northern Periphery Programme supports the economic, social and environmental development of the peripheral and remote communities on the northern margins of Europe with project funding that may cover up to 60 per cent of the costs of individual projects. The programme area covers regions in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as the whole of Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
