The Regional Council of Lapland plays an important role in the development of the region and in safeguarding its interests. These pages tell you more about our operations.
As the statutory regional development authority, the Regional Council of Lapland manages regional development and is responsible for drafting the regional development strategies and programmes, planning the regional development actions, and implementing as well as managing the structural fund programmes.
The guidelines for the practical development work are primarily set in the Regional development plan of Lapland, the Regional strategic programme for Lapland, and the implementation plan of the regional strategic programme. In addition, separate strategies are devised when necessary.
The Regional Council of Lapland funds the regional development projects. The Regional Council of Lapland has both national and EU funds at its disposal, granted for projects that promote the objectives of Lapland. The Regional Council of Lapland also operates as the administrative authority of the Kolarctic ENPI CNC programme as well as an information point for the Interreg IV A programme.
Alongside the regional development work, the Regional Council of Lapland encourages the achievement of regional objectives by safeguarding the interests of Lapland on both the national and EU level of decision-making - for example, by commenting on the legislation central to Lapland and the content of the annual state budget.
The Regional Council of Lapland operates openly in cooperation with all its partners in Lapland.
