The richness of Ranua lies in the simple, virginal natural beauty of its wilderness areas, its lakes and rivers that are ideal for fishing and canoeing, exciting adventure excursion routes, and clean and tasty berries and mushrooms, such as cloudberries and cranberries. With its numerous wilderness rivers, brooks and lakes, Ranua is a real treasure to nature enthusiasts.
 


Ranua is known as an area with very large families. Of the population 20.9 % are children aged 0-14 years, 60.5 % persons aged 15-64 years and 18.6 % persons aged 65 years or over.
Ranua offers its inhabitants outstanding basic services and educational and recreational services.

RanuaZoo is the flagship of local tourism. Open daily throughout the year, the Zoo welcomes children and adults of all age!
The idea is to offer local customers and tourists a chance to see northern and arctic animals in their natural habitats. There are some 50 species in the Zoo, the most famous one being the polar bear. There is also a domestic animal park, which is open in summer.

A traditional means of living in the municipality is agriculture, but there are also many companies that are engaged in wood processing, for example. The richness of Ranua lies in its beautiful rural landscape, which offers opportunities for a variety of pastimes.
